Baby Jordan is Here!

Our baby boy Jordan Thomas Greensides was born on November 20 at 3:30 am. He weighed 8 pounds and was 19 inches long and is adorable!.

I had a doctors appointment the afternoon of the 19th and the doctor decided she was going to induce me the next day (I was supposed to call into the hospital at 6:00 and they were going to tell me when to come in). Well, as soon as my children hear the word induction when they are in the womb, they decide to get things going...all of them have done this!

So, I came home and started getting things ready...packing my hospital bag, cleaning, doing some laundry, calling my mom to see if she could come up from St. George that night to watch the kids...all the fun stuff. Well, I started having contractions at around 4:30 (I had also had contractions off and on the night before). They weren't too bad, so when Jason came home, we decided to go to Cafe Rio to get some dinner since I didn't want to cook and I wanted something good to eat before being induced. I wasn't able to fully enjoy my dinner due to the painful contractions that kept coming.

We came home and got the kids ready for bed and waited for Grandma to get here. This was the first time that I had actually gone into labor on my own at home, so I wasn't sure when I was supposed to go to the hospital, so Jason called Labor and Delivery and explained that my contractions were about 6-7 minutes apart, but were only about 20-30 seconds long. The nurse said I might be dehydrated and said to lay down and drink lots of water (doesn't she know if a 9 month pregnant lady drinks lots of water, she isn't going to be able to lay down for a long time without having to get up to go to the bathroom!). So, I did that and the contractions subsided for about 45 minutes.

My mom got to our house and then the contractions started again, worse than before. We chatted with my mom and then we were off to bed, knowing we weren't going to get a great night's sleep considering the contractions. Well, about a half hour after going to bed, we decided it was time to go to the hopsital. My contractions had gotten really painful and were almost a minute long with not too long in between.

We got the the hopsital at midnight and got checked in and everything. I was worried they were going to tell me that I needed to go home because I wasn't in active labor yet. They actually suggested that I could do that if I wanted to, but I decided to stay since everything at home was taken care of and I wouldn't sleep any better there than I would at the hopsital. When they checked me the first time I was at a 3. The nurse (who we weren't impressed with at all!) told me they could give me an epidural when I was at a 4. After about an hour of bad contractions, I asked her to check me again and I was still at a 3, she told me she could give me some shot that should help the pain, so I said of course! Well, the shot did nothing but make me loopy! It didn't help with the pain at all which was not good!

About a half hour later, the nurse checked me and I was at a four! I told her to get me an epidural as fast as she could. She told me the epidural doctor (I know that's not what he's really called) was just finishing up someone else then he would be right in...well, 45 minutes later, he still wasn't there! By this time I was in excruciating pain and Jason was livid that it was taking so long! He kept going out in the hallway looking for the doctor and asking the nurse where he was. Well, he FINALLY came and started the epidural. I was sitting on the edge of the bed while he was doing the epidural having really painful contractions and he's telling me not to move...yeah right! It took him forever to get it in and he got it in right as my water broke and I was telling the nurse I had to push.

At this point, the doctor wasn't even in the room, the nurse checked me and I was at an 8 and she told someone to get the doctor ASAP. Well, when the doctor got there, he told me not to push...yeah right! I told him I couldn't and Jason looked at me and said "He's crowning, don't push!" The doctor wasn't ready at all, so I had to wait until he was ready, I pushed twice and out came our little boy!

So, I had a natural childbirth...not by choice though! The whole time I was in labor at home, on the way to the hospital and in the hospital I kept saying, "Why do people choose to do this naturally, drugs are so much better!" and I still concur, they are great, but only if you get them on time! No worries though...the epidural kicked in after I had the baby!

Anyway...that turned into a really long post, thanks for bearing with me! We named hime Jordan Thomas Greensides and he is adorable! He is a great baby so far and we are so happy to have him in our family. The kids love him. Jaxon is mad he can't hold him and get close to him because he is sick. Brynn is actually doing really well, which surprised me a little bit, I thought she would be a lot more jealous, but she likes to help me burp him and give him loves.

I just have to say thank you so much to my mom for helping with the kids. I know she felt bad that she wasn't there for the birth, but we didn't have anyone to watch the kids, so thank you a million times Mom, we love you!

Here are a few pictures of our new little man...enjoy!

A very proud (and a very tired) Dad!
The scale read 7lbs 15.8 oz...so the nurse said he weighed 7 lbs 16 oz and the doctor was like, "That's 8 lbs."

He really likes to sleep...let's hope he keeps it up!

Congratulations!! What a fun story too. Now you can wear that badge of courage "I gave birth naturally". I tried with Nik, but no. I too would love to help if you need anything!

Wow. What a scary experience, and frustrating! I would have been so mad. I am glad that everything went well. He is very cute! Poor Jaxon, he was sick with Brynn too. Congratulations!

Yeah! What fun, well not the child birth, but the new little one. I really like the name you have chosen- Thomas has been on our list lately as well. Isn't it funny how nothing ever happens as planned, but in the end I am glad things turned out with one healthy little boy.

Yay! I'm so glad to hear that he finally arrived. I'm sorry about the no drug issue....please don't let that happen to me! I may not have another child, if so ;)

When can we bring dinner by? We'd love to meet the little guy, but of course don't want to impose ;)
